State Sovereignty
This cluster seeks to narrow the gap of differences between state sovereignty and human security, especially when states have to coordinate their policies so as to defend themselves against violent conflict and illegal opposition organizations and groups. In particular, some movements in our region clearly have been engaging in violence and terrorism; and many states have charged those movements of terrorism. This cluster will focus on the impact of Islamists’ fundamentalist movements on state sovereignty and the central question will focus on identifying ways in which human security can be addressed without disenfranchising the state.
